Get ready for the Ready-to-Work program

The Hospitality Career Pathways program gives TSNO members access to entry level candidates (Ontario Works recipients) in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Here’s how the Hospitality Career Pathways program aims to help:

  • Supporting job creation in the tourism and hospitality sector
  • Providing job seekers with sector-relevant knowledge and skills
  • Connecting participants to employers and transitioning graduates into employment
  • Supporting workers who come up against barriers in the labour market

In partnership with the City of Toronto, OTEC and ACCES Employment the Hospitality Career Pathways is a free, 8-week, online and in-person training program for motivated jobseekers looking to start their career journey in the hospitality industry.

The 8-week program combines industry-recognized training and national hospitality certifications with workplace-based training. Program participants receive sector-relevant knowledge, skills and experience, individualized career coaching and assistance with developing their career plan.

The program also helps people move into employment in the sector or enroll in a related education/training program. Those who secure employment receive support to keep their new jobs.

This training will introduce participants to career opportunities and includes resume development, access to industry-specific certifications and connections to employers.

Participants can earn certificates in:

  • Service Excellence
  • Food Safety (NFSTP)
  • Smart Serve
  • Work Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • e-merit Workplace Essentials
  • Occupational Health and Safety

Program Benefits:

  • Continued employment support upon completing program


  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • City of Toronto resident
  • Ontario Works (OW) recipient (Caseworker referral is required)
  • Available for online and in-person training in Toronto

Referring candidates is easy:

  • A Caseworker from Toronto Employment & Social Services provides a referral letter stating prerequisite requirements have been met.
  • Candidates are invited to an information/screening session to learn more about Ready-To-Work.
  • Candidates are required to complete the Hospitality Employment Readiness Assessment. (HERA).

Program Highlights:

  • 118 Graduates since 2015.
  • 80% Graduates employed after graduation.
  • 83% of participants stated the program exceeded their expectations.
  • 91% of participants would highly recommend this training.
  • 75% of participants strongly agreed they learned skills that would help them get a job in the tourism and hospitality sector.
