The port city of Hamilton is located on the western tip of Lake Ontario and has earned itself a number of interesting nicknames including the ‘Ambitious City’, ‘The Hammer’ and with 130 waterfalls across the city, the ‘Waterfall Capital of the World.’ A leading industrial centre, Hamilton has long been known for its iron and steel works. But more and more, Hamilton is taking its rightful place as a unique urban centre with a vibrant arts scene. • The Covid-19 pandemic is forecasted to have resulted in a GDP loss of $4.3 B to Hamilton
• Hard hit by the pandemic, the accommodation sector revenues dropped by 53%. With continued easing of restrictions on international travel, the segment is forecasted to experience pre-pandemic revenue levels by 2024.
• Recreation revenues fell by 52% in 2019-2020. This segment is experiencing early recoveries. Expected to bypass pre-pandemic revenue by 2023.
• As per forecasts, the region is expected to lose nearly 53,738 Tourism and Hospitality jobs over 2020 – 2025
